Workers have encountered problems stopping the underground link and say it may take <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/california-gas-leak-wreaking-havoc-on-environment-2016-1\" title=\"a couple more months\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>a couple more months<\/strong><\/a> to fully fix the leak.<\/p>\n<h2>Environmental disaster<\/h2>\n<p>The leak is being termed a huge environmental disaster by many experts, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/energy-environment\/wp\/2015\/12\/23\/new-infrared-video-reveals-growing-environmental-disaster-in-la-gas-leak\/\" title=\"methane is escaping into the atmosphere\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>methane is escaping into the atmosphere<\/strong><\/a> at an unprecedented rate. <\/p>\n<p>Methane is an extremely potent greenhouse gas, as it can have up to  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/california-gas-leak-wreaking-havoc-on-environment-2016-1\" title=\"80 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>80 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide<\/strong><\/a>.
