{"id":78,"date":"2015-12-23T13:15:08","date_gmt":"2015-12-23T18:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utilitieslocal.com\/news\/?p=78"},"modified":"2015-12-23T10:23:08","modified_gmt":"2015-12-23T15:23:08","slug":"half-of-new-u-s-electricity-came-from-renewable-sources-in-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utilitieslocal.com\/news\/half-of-new-u-s-electricity-came-from-renewable-sources-in-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Half of new U.S. electricity came from renewable sources in 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) recently released a detailed report about the state of renewable energy in the United States, based on 2014 data.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, more than half U.S. electricity capacity additions in 2014 came from renewable sources.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Renewables exceeded 50% of 2014 US capacity installation &#8211; This &amp; more in new NREL Data Book <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GQjwtXgZa4\">https:\/\/t.co\/GQjwtXgZa4<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SH8WWwmA4M\">pic.twitter.com\/SH8WWwmA4M<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NREL (@NREL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NREL\/status\/675018649015484418\">December 10, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Renewable energy on the rise<\/h2>\n<p>The report also noted big increases specifically in solar &#8212; the total installed capacity of solar electricity in the U.S. in 2014 increased by more than 54 percent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other key highlights from the NREL report:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2014, U.S. renewable electricity reached 15.5 percent of total installed capacity<\/li>\n<li>U.S. renewable electricity reached 13.5 percent of total electricity generation in 2014.<\/li>\n<li>IN 2014, installed renewable electricity capacity exceeded 179 gigawatts (GW), and generated 554 terawatt-hours (TWh).<\/li>\n<li>U.S. wind electricity generation grew by 8.3 percent in 2014.<\/li>\n<li>In 2014, wind electricity capacity in the U.S increased by 7.8 percent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Global findings<\/h2>\n<p>Renewable energy flashed impressive numbers on a worldwide basis, as well. <\/p>\n<p>Renewable electricity capacity on a global level now represents 28.5 percent of total worldwide electricity capacity, NREL said.
