Governor wants 50% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling for half of all electricity consumed in the state of New York to originate from clean and renewable energy sources by 2030.

50 by ’30

The 50 by ’30 (50 percent of electricity from renewable sources by 2030) goal was announced in conjunction with the recent climate talks in Paris, COP 21.

“Climate change is one of the defining issues of our time, and we must act now. As discussions continue in Paris, we are taking real, enforceable actions in New York to lay the foundation for a thriving clean energy economy. With one of the most aggressive renewable energy goals of any state in the nation, we are leading by example to ensure the possibility of a bright future for generations to come.”
– New York Governor Andrew Cuomo

Reforming the Energy Vision (REV)

Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) strategy will look to modify New York’s current energy policy with new state-wide initiatives and regulatory reforms focused on renewable energy efforts. Both solar power and wind power will be part of the overall strategy.

New York aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent while also generating at least half of all electricity from renewable sources within the next 15 years.
