Report: Solar panels add value to homes
A recent study and report from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) found that the presence of solar panels added value to homes.
The Berkeley Lab engaged a team of seven appraisers across six states — California, Oregon, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania — to examine any effect that the presence of photovoltaics (PV) might have on home prices.
The results brought forth strong, appraisal-based evidence of premiums being paid in all states on homes with solar panels.

Rooftop solar adds value to U.S. homes
According to the Berkeley Lab, previous studies had shown that PV systems add home value, but few included the use of real estate appraisers and standard appraisal methods.
This appraiser-backed study confirmed the results of other large-scale statistical analyses by concluding that the existence of solar panels adds value to homes in a variety of markets.
Higher home prices, lower solar costs
This pricing discovery is good news for homeowners, as solar energy pricing is at an all-time low and solar installation costs are still falling.
The Berkeley Lab is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy through its Office of Science.
